Chicago, Illinois– The Pelicans faced off against the Chicago Bulls for the 2nd time this preseason but this time was a different result. The Pells were on a mission tonight as they stopped the Bulls 108-95, behind the game high 37 pts from All-star forward Anthony Davis.
Davis, besides his 37 points also snagged a game high 15 boards in 34 mins of action for New Orleans. The Pelicans All-star center DeMarcus Cousins got into the act as well, almost earning a triple-double with 22 pts 9 rebs 9 asts in 36 minutes of play. The 3rd wheel for New Orleans was guard Jrue Holiday adding 19 pts on 66.7% from the field in 30 mins.
The Pells played a heck of a lot better than the 2 prior games on defense & really attacked the basket on offense. The stats for New Orleans told the story as they shot 42% while Chicago shot 36.8%. The Pells did shoot 33.3% from 3 while the Bulls shot a miserable 26.8%. The Pells still had more turnovers (21), they out rebounded the Bulls 47-44 & the most surprising stat was that the team shot an excellent 86.8 (33-38) from the charity strip.
New Orleans did all this in the absence of guard Rajon Rond0 out with a groin Injury for 3 to 4 weeks. The combination of E’Twaun Moore & Ian Clark at guard soften the blow of Rondo as both played extensive minutes tonight. E’Twaun Moore finished with 9 pts 9 rebs in 36 mins while Ian Clark added 7 pts 7 asts in 30 minutes.
The Pelicans play their final preseason game on Friday the 13th in Memphis against the Grizzlies.
