Tom Brady talks friendship with Donald Trump

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has made waves over the past two weeks after his return from suspension.

He’s done the same off the field for his well-publicized relationship with Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.

In fact, Brady feels so strongly about the friendship he called into Boston’s WEEI 93.7 Monday morning to talk about it, according to TMZ Sports:

He’s been a friend of mine. He’s supported our team. He’s supported the Patriots. He’s been on the Patriots sideline a lot. He’s always called me after games to encourage me over the course of 15 years. That’s kind of the way it is.

The thing I’ve always thought is I don’t want to be a distraction for the team. That’s what my goal is. Not that there are things I’ve said and done that haven’t been, but you try not to be. It’s just hard enough to win and prepare without the distractions so when you start having the distractions it’s even harder to prepare.

To his credit, Brady has stuck to his guns about not being a distraction. He promptly walked out of a press conference recently once a reporter dropped a Trump question:

Others, though, provided a different angle on the presser:

Regardless, Brady has now taken to the media and talked about his relationship with Trump while skirting around the big issues. As of this writing, Brady hasn’t commented on Trump’s controversial “locker room talk” despite many high-profile athletes coming out against it.

Whether Brady likes it or not, his latest comments on Trump will spark plenty of headlines and debates. Like Bill Belichick and the rest of the Patriots organization, this vague conversation is as much as folks will likely hear on the topic, for better or worse.

On the field, Brady has directed two smooth wins since his return while throwing six touchdowns against zero interceptions.
