A MMA legend and pioneer has announced his retirement.  Lighter weight legend Urijah Faber told Ariel Helwani today on The MMA Hour that his next fight will be his last.  The fight in question is at UFC on Fox: VanZant vs Waterson on December 17th against fellow veteran Brad Pickett.  The event takes place in the brand new Golden 1 Center in Faber’s hometown of Sacramento, California.

The former WEC Featherweight Champion (2006-08), GC Bantamweight Champion (2004-05) and KOTC Bantamweight Champion (2004-06) cited that this was the perfect time to retire due to the fight’s location and the place he is at in his career.  The 37-year-old is on the first two-fight losing streak in his 13 year career, and despite being a champion in multiple organizations he was never able to get over the hump in the UFC.  Regardless, he was a true pioneer in the sport for the little man, ruling the roost in the dark ages before the UFC had weight classes below lightweight.  His exciting fighting style, looks, and charisma made him an instant fan favorite and one of the sport’s biggest stars during his heyday.
