Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz hit many clutch home runs to burn the New York Yankees over the years, and it’s probably a big relief for them that he’s set to retire when the season ends.
Ortiz played in his final game in New York on Thursday night, and went 0-for-1 at the plate with a strikeout and a walk.
The Yankees came through with a pretty great gesture before the game, though, as they held a ceremony to commemorate Ortiz’s final game at Yankee Stadium, and gifted him with an oil painting of himself at that time. Mariano Rivera made an appearance to unveil the painting and present it to Ortiz, which made it even better.
