Linebacker Luke Kuechly is the leader of the Panthers’ defense, as he’s the best player on the unit and also receives the play calls from the coaching staff. So when he’s not on the field, they look like a shell of their former self.
That was the case on Thursday night, when Kuechly left the game with a concussion, and the Saints stormed back from a 23-3 deficit to cut the lead to 23-20.
Kuechly was carted off after getting his leg pinned under Tim Hightower and sustaining a blow to the back of the head from a teammate’s helmet.

Kuechly stayed down for awhile, and was eventually carted off the field. He was even seen crying as he made his way to the locker room, being that he’s suffered some serious concussions over the years, and probably knew this one wasn’t going to be an injury he could just immediately shake off and return from.
The Panthers have not provided any update about the injury, but teammate Kurt Coleman did have this to say:
Kurt Coleman on Kuechly: It looked like play where Kuechly was concussed at Jacksonville last yr.

We’re hoping the best for Kuechly, and will provide updates when we get them.
