Blaine Gabbert stepped into a spot light position for a Gary Pinkle team that is starting to put there name on the map not only in the Big 12 but the national scheme as well. Taking the ranes from Chase Daniel, Gabbert ran with them and never looked back. He only three for 16 touchdowns in his senior year, but he had a better percentage rate and more yards. Showing that he was more caring for the ball and where he distrubuted it. A hard man to bring down in the pocket as he sees a lot before it happens or as it is happening because of his size and stature. You seem him constantly improve over the course of his career at the University of Missouri and being a team captain and having respect from his team mates as a junior shows his ability to be a solid leader when things begin to get tough. His ability to throw is right on for a typical NFL type offense. He has the ability to throw the deep outs and across the middle. I was impressed with his ability to see the plays open up before him. He understood the offense very well in the couple of years that he really started making the strides to become an elite quarterback.
He is a taller quarterback, so he has some issues with his knees being hit, but he is able to move pretty well in the pocket. He took his team with a stagnant run game to a very good football team this previous season and mostly on his arm.
He is an elite arm for the NFL. I like his ability to see the whole field and his ability to change his arm angle when needed to make the passes. I would like to see him improve on his deep ball throws, but I truly like his leadership skills and his ability to lead a difficult offense. He took a team that was good when he took over and made them better.
That proves to me that he continues to work at his job and get better each game. His interception number was the same for his sophmore and junior year, but his touchdown number actually went down from his sophmore to his junior year, but he hit more short passes and intermediate passes which was able to set up a run game. It also allowed defenses to game plan from his sophmore year to his junior year about how to defend him.
They tried to take a way a lot of his options longer down the field and left short routes open and he did the good decision and dropped the ball off and let his wide receiver do the work. His footwork is very good for his height and he can evade defenders with good regularity. He could start right out of the draft but I would like to see one year as a growing year.
