NFL Draft Press Conerence Notes

Cam NewtonHere are some notes from the press conferences that occured after each players were drafted. I’ve included what I thought were the best lines of each interview. If you want a full transcript, give me an email.

Cam Newton: (On comparisons to Vince Young) “I feel that I’m my own man. I feel like I shouldn’t be compared to anybody because the attributes that I can bring to this game is something that I haven’t really worked out. I try to pick something from each quarterback.”

Von Miller: (On if teams had any reactions on being a plaintiff) “You Know, it was about football. I think they know me. I think they did research and I think  they checked my background to know that I’m not a troublemaker and I’m not a guy that just looks for attention. I’m a team guy. Whatever it takes to help out my team is what I do. That’s one of the main reasons why I joined.”

Marcel Dareus: “I really cwould put myself as a Warren Sapp type guy.” (On joining Buffalo) “I feel it’s just like Tuscaloosa. The history, the fans, it’s crazy.”

AJ Green: (What do you know about Cincinnati?) “I know they have a great amusement park. That’s about it.”

Patrick Peterson: “I know Fitzgerald will keep me prepared to play on Sundays.” (Playing with Dominique Rodges-Cromatrie) “Man, it’s going to be fun.”

Julio Jones: (On playing for the Falcons) “You know, I’m grateful for them trading up for me. Excited.”

Aldon Smith: (On if he lucked out ending up in San Francisco) “I think I did too. I’m excited.”

Tyron Smith: “It’s going to be a big transition going to the next level.”

Blaine Gabbert: “Jacksonville is a great place, and I’m anxious to to get down there, anxious to make that my home. I love Florida.”

JJ Watt: “I’ve heard from Garrett Graham and Owen Daniels that said they love it down there, so I can’t wait to see it for myself. (On formerly working at Pizza Hut) “I’ve eaten plenty of pizzas in my day. I kind of have to stop now. My dietician wouldn’t be too happy.”

Nick Fairley: “When I went in [visiting the Lions], I got to sit down with the defensive line coach for a good two hours, and we was watching film and talking football and I was like, man, this is the type of coach I would love to play for. So for them to pick me, I’m just really excited.”

Mike Pouncey: (On playing with his brother) “Maybe later, later down the road. But I’ll just try and play on a few Pro Bowl teams with him first. But hey, I’ve got to go in there [Miami] and earn respect for my teammates and a spot before we can even think about the Pro Bowl.”

Ryan Kerrigan: (On talking to Shanahan) “He’s the one that called me and said, ‘Are you excited to be a Redskin?’ and I said ‘Heck yes I am!’. And I really am. I’m excited.

Corey Liuget: (On looking forward to going to San Diego) “Just give it my all, keeping my mouth closed and going out there and winning football games at all.”

Prince Amukamara: “I definitely had a Brady Quinn flashback, and just pictured him waiting. But I knew that it was nothing I could control and just waited for the phone call. I expected the worst. I don’t think I got the worst at all. I’m looking forward to facing ALL 18 teams that passed on me.”

Adrian Clayborn: “I’m excited. My visit down there, it was my best by far, and just seeing him in his office and his scheme, it was perfect.”

Danny Watkins: (On playing with a quarterback like Vick) “I don’t think that’s going to be an issue. The quarterback we played with this year was very similar, a lot of the NFL people I’ve spoken to have compared the two just in style of scramble.”

Phil Taylor: (On his favorite move as a rusher) “Knock ’em over. Go straight through them.”
