Pittsburgh’s Starting QB Injured, to Miss Three Regular Season Games

Of course, I mean Bernard Morris, the Pittsburgh Power QB, who was placed on short-term IR with a shoulder/back muscle injury and will miss four weeks. But you were scared for a split second, weren’t you?

Anyway, the injury means Kevin McCabe will get the start on Monday (Monday night football!) at division rival Milwaukee. McCabe, as I noted a couple weeks back, starred at California University of Pennsylvania, and the Steelers gave him a look in training camp after his senior year. He isn’t a true rookie in the Arena Football League either, as he was the backup in Cleveland last year.

The Power are 1-1 after a 58-28 thrashing of the Iowa Barnstormers. Just a few nuggets from that game:

  • 28 points is a very low score in arena football. The Power defense was what you’d expect from a Pittsburgh defense, intercepting Iowa QB Brad Banks (ha) three times.

  • Five different WRs had TDs, which is a good sign for the offense.

  • The Barnstormers’ kicker is Piotr Czech, which should be a familiar name if you watch a lot of Steelers preseason games.

I don’t know if I’ll check in after every game, probably just if something amazing happens, if the Power are in the playoff race, and before and after Cleveland games out of principle. Either way, the Power defense seems like the typical physical, stingy D the fans expect out of their local teams, and it should be interesting to watch.
