One of the Dolphins’ two remaining restricted free agents has finally signed his one-year tender. The Sun Sentinel is reporting that Anthony Fasano is now under contract for the 2010 season, after signing the tender that will pay him $1.759 million this year.
The other restricted free agent, Ronnie Brown, has still not signed, but that should change in the next few days, as the deadline for signing is June 15th. If he doesn’t sign by then, the Dolphins can lower their $3.97 million offer, so getting the thing signed only makes business sense for Ronnie.
Fasano meanwhile, will be hoping to return to his 08′ form, when he put up 34 receptions, 454 receiving yards, and 7 touchdowns. Because in 09′, those numbers slumped to 31 receptions, 339 yards, and 2 touchdowns, which had many fans calling for Miami to draft a receiving tight end.
The Dolphins chose not to pick up a tight end in the draft, perhaps giving Fasano one more season to prove he can be the guy, and earn a long term deal in the process.
If he can’t get his production back up in 2010 though, expect drafting, signing, or trading for a receiving tight end to be high on the Dolphins’ offseason to-do list.
