While the Miami Dolphins get ready to play versus Jacksonville in a matter of hours, Jeff Ireland has made a change to the current preseason roster.
As reported by Omar Kelly of the South Florida Sun Sentinel, the Dolphins have cut undrafted rookie running back Cameron Marshall to possibly sign a free agent tackle.
The tackle position and it's flexibility has been somewhat of a question mark given the reports from training camp that Jonathan Martin needs to play better in order to show he can protect Ryan Tannehill's blindside. In addition, Dallas Thomas taken in round 2, did not show the versatility at the position the Dolphins thought they had in his last game versus Dallas of the preseason. Thomas allowed his man to beat up back quarterback Matt Moore.
With this latest development, Kelly mentions that the Dolphins will be signing a free agent tackle by this weekend. What is not clear, is if the potential free agent is from the pool of free agents available or a player that could be cut this weekend by another team.
The potential list of left available as of July 29th includes: Jared Gaither, Jeff Otah, Sean Locklear, Chad Clifton, Jammal Brown, Frank Omiyale, Wayne Hunter, Lydon Murtha, and Mario Henderson.
In fact, despite this cut of Marshall, many other cuts could occur given the need for depth on the offensive line as the Dolphins continue to mix and match to find the right combination. Expect Jeff Ireland and his staff to kick the tires on more potential free agents as camp comes to a close and the Dolphins solidify their 53 man roster.
