Dolphins cut Louis, Lane, Pruitt, 6 others; trim roster to 75 players

Despite it being an exciting day for most fans due to the release of Madden, today was a day which most players around the league were not looking forward to. By 4 pm this afternoon teams needed to cut down their roster to 75 players. Final cuts to reach the 53 man roster must be made by 6 pm on Saturday.

Notable cuts:

WR Julius Pruitt

Pruitt came back to the team in attempts to help provide depth to the unit. Some might have realized I was not for the signing in the first place as I never believed Pruitt could really help the Dolphins over the course of the season.

FB Jorvorskie Lane

Lane became a fan favorite last season and also was known for being step brothers with Packers TE Jermichael Finley. Lane simply couldn’t hold off free agent Evan Rodriguez and was on the roster bubble since March when the team explored its options at FB. Rodriguez has even been moved around at TE, making him a more versatile option than Lane.

WR Jeff Fuller

Played at Texas A&M with Tannehill but was never able to make enough of an impact in order to remain on the roster.

G Lance Louis

Louis was brought in this free agency with a chance to compete and start at RG however he fell behind with nagging injuries and was never able to catch up.

The remaining five cuts included linebacker Michael Clay, defensive end Emeka Onyenekwu, wide receiver Andrell Smith, linebacker Nathan Williams and linebacker David Hinds.
