It's official. Per Adam Schefter of ESPN (according to an NFL source), the Miami Dolphins have hired Dennis Hickey as their GM.
Astonishingly, Hickey until around Friday afternoon wasn't on the media's radar as a possible finalist for the job.
However, the Dolphins elected to go a different direction and pass over internal candidate Brian Gaine after Lake Dawson and Nick Caserio both turned the the GM offer down.
At the same time, the Dolphins chose change rather than status quo and that is the reason that Stephen Ross went this direction.
Hickey for 18 season served in Tampa and three years as a personnel man that rose within the ranks of the front office. As GM, we can expect something that hasn't been seen in Miami, a tough secondary, defensive line, and a physical football team.
Ironically, Hickey was on the other end of things as the Dolphins played in Tampa Bay this past season and lost after a slow start and the hangover of "bullygate."
So, there you have it. Dennis Hickey represents potential change in Miami and no matter what Stephen Ross went with the man that shared his vision.
