Looking back at my partial column that I was GOING to write is proving to be spot on. Here were my thoughts after the impressive victory vs. the Pats last Sunday…
That’s it. Superbowl or everyone gets fired! It doesn’t get any bigger than this win for the 2014 Miami Dolphins. But did they just peak? Is it all down hill from here? If so it’s a long ride down.
Doubtful they’ll slide. Just as long as Knowshon Moreno stays healthy and they don’t have to rely on Ryan Tannehill to win games. Tannehill did very little to change the minds of the doubters.
As big as that victory over the Pats was, the loss in Buffalo was just as crushing. Losing Knowshon Moreno is a HUGE loss for the Dolphins. Might be the difference in the season. They now have to rely on the same backfield they had last season. Miller and Thomas….and oh yea…gulp…Tannehill.
Look, I really like Ryan Tannehill. He’s a smart kid. I like how he handles the offense. His decision making rivals some of the best quarterbacks in the league. Shoot, I even like his wife, she’s adorable. I even follow her on Instagram. They make a cute couple. The thing is, from 20 yards out he can’t hit the broad side of a barn. It’s taken 2+ years but I’m convinced Ryan Tannehill is not accurate enough when it counts to ever make a difference as a starting QB in the NFL.
It pains me to say that. But this is Tannehill’s season to prove himself worthy of a big contract. He didn’t help his cause in week 1 vs the Patriots, and he was down right horrid in Buffalo. At this point you are what you are. Adrian Peterson has a better chance being named Father of the Year before Tannehill hits Wallace in stride for a 50 yard touchdown.
Tannehill is in his final year of his contract in Miami, and he’ll surely move on and have a great career as a backup somewhere else. Which begs the question–what does Matt Moore’s wife look like?
