When the 2015 NFL draft begins on Thursday night, the Miami Dolphins will have six picks, but all the focus currently revolves around their first selection, at number 14 overall. Unlike in recent years when the public generally had a pretty good idea of which player the Dolphins would select in the first round, there are many different directions Miami can go in this year. The team’s free agent signings allowed them to check of some glaring needs, which should give them the luxury of taking the best player available. Now, the big question is, who will that player be?
Louisville wide receiver DeVante Parker’s name has been associated with the Dolphins but it is expected that the top three wide outs in the draft, Amari Cooper, Kevin White and Parker will be off the board by the time Miami is on the clock. Do the Dolphins take the next best wide receiver? If so, USC’s Nelson Agholor or UCF’s Breshad Perriman could be the pick. Maybe the Dolphins will address the cornerback position and take Trae Waynes of Michigan State, Marcus Peters of Washington or Kevin Johnson of Wake Forest. Miami still has a need at guard, making LSU’s La’el Collins a viable option. The Dolphins can also try for the home run pick and select a high risk (due to injuries), high reward player such as Georgia running back Todd Gurley. We also can’t forget about the possibility of the Dolphins trading up for a top player of trading back to acquire more picks. The possibilities are seemingly endless.
