Dolphins wrap up day 3

The Dolphins wrapped up Day 3 of training camp. This also marked the first time the team got to go in full pads.

Today, all eyes were on Ndamukong Duh and he did not disappoint. Going up against the likes of Billy Turner, Jamil Douglas and Dallas Thomas, Suh dominated as one would expect him to. While this may be seen as a negative when judging the offensive line, it could have positive long term effects. The offensive line and specifically the guards will not see a better defensive front all year, so who better to practice against.

After practice The Miami Heralds Armando Salguero caught up with Turner who said “I’m getting better everyday. Having an opportunity to go against the best d-line in the NFL has helped me be more accomplished. Suh has taught me you have to be ready for everything … He’ll use a couple of moves on you and then he sets you up for something else. He power rushed me a couple of times and then, all of a sudden, he used a quick on me.”

Also on defense, the Dolphins continued to rotate the linebackers. Kelvin Shepherd and Koa Misi rotated at middle linebacker. Misi also so action at SLB as well. Jelani Jenkins and Chris McCain were at their normal spots, while McCain also showed his versatility and lined up defensive end.

It appears that Jamar Taylor and Brice McCain are the early favorites for the outside corner and slot corner. Before the season as Salguero pointed out, Taylor was assumed to take over the outside corner while McCain would man the slot, but it appears Taylor had gotten reps at the slot while McCain has been taking reps on the outside.

The offense has continued to impress. It has been noted that they definitely held an advantage during the first 2 days of camp. Quarterback Ryan Tannehill continues to develop a great on the field relationship with second year receiver, Jarvis Landry. And for anyone who grew up liking the Rambo movies, Landry has been sporting a new headband ala Rambo. Landry told The Palm Beach Post’s Andrew Abramson  “I think about Rambo,” Landry said. “Anytime I think about some of the Army stuff and just the transformation he made when he wasn’t John anymore — he was Rambo.
“For me being able to come out here and play the game I love at a high level — I wouldn’t say it’s a fashion statement. It’s just a little personality coming out.”

Jordan Cameron is obviously the starting tight end, but Dion Sims also so some reps with first team. If Sims can continue to grow and be more consistent catching the ball, he could add another dynamic to the offense. Coach Philbin said he has been impressed so far and thinks he is having a good camp this far.

Brandon Albert and Will Davis were both out today. The Dolphins are going to be smart with both players.

Rookie running back Jay Ajayi returned to practice today after leaving early yesterday with arm cramps.

The Dolphins will be back at practice tomorrow morning at 8am. As always, Phins Up!!
