The 2015 Dolphins have championship expectations. Starting at the very top with owner Steve Ross and down to head coach Joe Philbin, both have openly stated they expect to win a championship. As a fan, that is music to my ears. Philbin has always been tight lipped and politically correct so to speak. He is never to high and never to low and has had bury your head and go to work mentality.
The 2015 version of Philbin is different. When speaking to the media on Sunday, Philbin stated “I came here to win championships. I didn’t come here to be average and be 8-8”. He also added, “There’s three championships right now that are out there: There’s the AFC East, there’s the AFC and there’s the NFL championship,” Philbin said. “So nothing’s been decided. I can honestly tell you sitting here we’ve had a couple of clunkers in three years. But we haven’t had a ton of clunkers where we just got manhandled from start to finish. So I’ve gone into every game thinking we’re going to win every game.”
I can’t speak for everyone, but I was fired up knowing someone was talking about championships in this organization for once.
Is it reasonable to expect to win the AFC East, the AFC Championship and the Super Bowl?
The answer should be; Why not. It’s been done before. The ’99 Rams, ’01 Patriots and the ’08 Cardnials all won their respective division and advanced to the Super Bowl after missing out on the playoffs the previous year.
This is without a doubt the best roster the Phins have yielded since at least the ’02-03 seasons. Cam Wake and Brent Grimes are still very good and boarder line elite. Ndamukong Suh is arguably the best defensive tackle since Warren Sapp. Ryan Tannehill took a huge step forward in his third year and should continue his ascension to Top 10 QB status level. He has been equipped with receivers and tight ends who fit his skill level.
So again I say, Why not us?
While the Jets and Bills both improved during the offseason, they are still lacking a quarterback to get them over the hump. The patriots lost star cornerback Darrell Revis and Vince Wilfork who has been the heart and soul of the defense. Most improbably Tom Brady is facing a four game suspension for his role in Deflategate.
There should be no excuses this year. Winning the AFC East is attainable and from there anything is possible.
Why not us, Dolfans. Phins Up!!!
