Miami Dolphins 2016 Mock Draft Part 2

Here is an updated version of my Miami Dolphins 2016 mock draft.

Please note is what I think I will happen, not necessarily what I want to happen.

Rd 1 – Vernon Hargreaves
Rd 2 – Hunter Henry

Rd 3 – Kenneth Dixon

Rd 4 – BJ Goodson

Rd 5 – Maliek Collins

Rd 6 – Alex McAllister

Rd 7 – Mike Thomas

Rd 7 – Jordan Payton

I used the most recent 7 round mock on NFL.com as a guide for approximately when players would be selected.  I had both Myles Jack & Zeke Elliott gone by pick 8.  Could still be a trade up, but I wasn’t going to speculate on that.

Hargreaves would be a day 1 starter at a need position.  Not the biggest guy, but I think he will be a solid pro.  Rd 2 was based on the fact that Cameron & Sims are free agents next year.  Henry would be a bit of a luxury, but in a year, he steps in & becomes your cheap starter.  Dixon is not my favorite choice but there are people I respect who really like him & think he’s a good fit in Gase’s offense.  Goodson is someone Miami has been linked to and can fill the starting MLB role sooner rather than later.  Collins would be a BPA pick in round 5.  A guy who I think could easily be a starter by his 2nd year.  McAllister is a rush DE with length.  Nice potential development guy for LEO role.  In Rd 7, I had Miami taking 2 WR’s who could be back of the roster guys to develop.  Thomas, in particular, is a very nice WR who I think will make a roster.

For those thinking that Miami will only focus on D or need positions, I think you will be surprised.  Part of good roster development is planning ahead for situations, especially player movement.  While it would have been nice to mock an OT to replace Albert in a year, the board did not dictate it.  This draft would fill some needs but also add depth to spots that may not be a problem yet.  I am giving the front office the benefit of the doubt & feel they will take the right approach this year with the day 2 & 3 picks.

I will end with this:  I say the chances of Miami moving up in round 1 of this draft are very high.  Would not be my choice, but I can very easily see it happening.  If it does, this mock goes out the window.
