Predicting the 53-man roster

Shabazz

Although it’s another month away, on September 3rd the Miami Dolphins will cut their last men and establish their final 53-man roster. Here are my predictions as to what that roster will look like, barring a trade (DE for cornerback being the most likely.)

QB (2)
Ryan Tannehill, Matt Moore

While rookie Brandon Doughty has been turning heads in camp, the Dolphins have too many other needs to keep more than two QB’s on the roster.

RB (4)
Arian Foster, Jay Ajayi, Kenyon Drake, Damien Williams

While new head coach Adam Gase is fond of Daniel Thomas–they spent last season together in Chicago–the Dolphin’s need Damien Williams for his pass block abilities.

WR (6)
DeVante Parker, Jarvis Landry, Kenny Stills, Leonte Carroo, Jakeem Grant, AJ Cruz

Possibly the deepest position this year, the Dolphins receiver unit looks poised to have a decent year.

TE (3)
Jordan Cameron, Dion Sims, Thomas Duarte

Let’s hope Jordan Cameron can create some chemistry with Ryan Tannehill and make the tight end position relevant on the team.

OL (10)
Branden Albert, Laremy Tunsil, Mike Pouncey, Billy Turner, Ja’Wuan James, Jermon Bushrod, Dallas Thomas, Sam Young, Jacques McClendon, John Ulrick

The O-line is in much better shape than in years past, but the group will need to perform exceptionally well to live up to the hype.

DL (10)
Cameron Wake, Ndamukong Suh, Earl Mitchell, Mario Williams, Andre Branch, Deandre Coleman, Jordan Phillips, Dion Jordan, Terrance Fede, Jason Jones

Another deep unit, the D-line needs to prove itself after a less-than-stellar 2015.

LB (6)
Jelani Jenkins, Kiko Alonso, Koa Misi, Neville Hewitt, Danny Lansanah, Chris McCain

The linebacker unit could be great or could be suspect. They will likely rely on the talent of the defensive line.

CB (5)
Byron Maxwell, Xavien Howard, Tony Lippett, Bobby McCain, Ifo Ekpre-Olomu

Probably the most troublesome group of the team. Look for the Dolphins to keep 5 CB’s instead of 6 due to a lack of talent at the position. The cornerbacks, like the linebackers, will rely on a stout defensive line.

S (4)
Reshad Jones, Isa Abdul-Quddus, Walt Aikens, Michael Thomas

Safety is less troublesome than cornerback, provided the unit stay healthy throughout the season.

K (1)
Andrew Franks

He’ll get another chance.
P (1)
Matt Darr

Hopefully Darr can build on his outstanding rookie campaign.

LS (1)
John Denney

The longest tenured Dolphin will increase his stay another year.
