Is the glass half full or half empty?

Never in my life has there been a time of so much excitement, sure an expectant child might compare

But never in my life have so many stars aligned in a single season for my favorite teams.

My beloved Bronco’s looks the part of the best team in all the land of College football.

Whens the last time my heart felt Detroit Lions won an opening day game on the road against a team that had a winning recorded and figures to be in the playoff hunt? 1980? Maybe against the L.A. Rams, hell I can’t remember the last time I looked at the Lions schedule and didn’t see a game on it they didn’t have a legit chance to win. Tigers oh my cherished Detroit Tigers, in my life time I have watch, been to and enjoyed more Tiger games then all the other sports combined, at this point in this season the Detriot Tigers might have the best player best pitcher and most devastating hitting line up of all of baseball, they are not only closing in on the Boston Red Sox for the second best reordered in the American league, they are only 4 games back of the new york yankies and closing fast for the best overall record in the American league!

Add in my childhood love the Michigan Wolverines miracle in the big house on Saturday night and I just have to wonder am I looking at having a very successful season or the opportunity of massive disappointment?

Is the glass half full or half empty?

I don’t know if I have seen a team so put together so deep as I see with this 2011 Boise State team, yet no questions this will be Boise States most difficult season schedule ever, while passing its first hurdle in the Georgia Bull Dawgs, there next game is against a surprising upset minded Toledo Rockets team that dominated The Ohio State for all but 3 minutes of play on Saturday in the horse shoe!

Is the glass half full or half empty?

I don’t know how many of Bronco Nation is going to be at the glass bowl this Friday night I for sure will be, hopefully not surrounded by a bunch of belligerent rocket fans. Boise State always gets their opponents best game and by that I don’t just mean player effort, coaches scheme and hold back players.

In 2009 Fresno State held back their best running back not playing him against a Wisconsin team they might have beaten by playing him, just to try to sneak one by the Bronco’s, Brain Mathews light us up but for the total team effort Boise would of failed to go undefeated and make its Fiesta bowl against TCU, so with that in mind I look at Talsua,Frescon State,Nevada, TCU Air force San Diego and Colorado State and see bumps everywhere, one bad night one bouncing ball and all the dreams go up in smoke.

Unlike all the other teams vying for a shot at either a BCS bowl or even the MNC, Boise State isn’t allowed a bad night out even a winning one, as proof of last year when at least two lessor teams got BCS game while Boise play a Thursday night December Bowl game one couldn’t possible imagine a bigger tragedy.

Then there’s Michigan, good thing is we’ve seen this before from this team in recent history once big ten play resumes it’s all but over for them, but there lays the twist what if they get into Big Ten play and start to put it together, get a couple bounces and the next thing you know they are in the first every Big 10 Championship game against Wisconsin? A team that even while trying to kill the clock and nit run up the score against Michigan last running 24 consecutive time in the second half only ended up piling on more. Oh the disappointment of losing the first every Big 10 Championship game! However I really don’t hold out to much hope for that so it’s not concerning me to much but I’m aware it could happen.

Is the glass half full or half empty?

In my life time the Detroit Lions have won only 1 home playoff game and man am I glad I went to it! Who would have thought it may have been my only chance in life to do so, but now there is hope, no that’s not right now there is expectations for just such a thing happening. I cannot possibly express all the heart break the Lions have put on this fan, it’s been painful and deep, but I must admit either I have grown accustom to it of just have a much different feel for this team then in the past. Without a doubt with the expectations of this team clearly all my own there is a great opportunity for disappointment in this season for the Lions, not because they will under achieve but because of what they will achieve creating even higher expectations as the season progresses.

Is the glass half full or half empty?

I’ll never forget my first game at the old Tiger field on the corner of Michigan and Tumble for as long as I live Labor Day weekend I was 1977 we went to the game on a return trip from cedar point, Tigers lost to the White Sox, I can still hear the drunken Heckler to this day. Back then the stadium was very much dilapidated; by the time I had gone to my next game in Tiger Stadium I was married with 3 kids and would be our only game there by the time we had returned from Idaho CO America Park was just opening. I have seen many games in the new Stadium even in the darkest of years when breaking records meant number of losses in a season recorders, but I’ve watch many more games of meaning there since. There is just something about those Tigers and me, from my earliest child hood growing up in Mid-Michigan listen to Ernie Howell and Al Kaline calling the games in the hot summer days while living in the country miles from anywhere, before cable and Satellite all we had was the Tigers.

So this season looks again to be something special, in my life time the Tigers have been to the world series 3 times once when I was too young to know the other when I lived in Idaho, when the best I could do was get a paper every day to read the box score and listen to late night radio. Then in 06 when the pitchers couldn’t field a infield bunt to save their lives. In 88 when I first returned Michigan the Tigers made a run, Frank Tanna pitch a wonderful last day game to win the east only to run into the red hot Twins and their white roofed dome and be denied a shot at the series.

Yep this year’s Tigers have been a work in progress all year and from the very first pitch I have believed in them and from the second week of August until today the team’s player moves and results give up to more than just a pennant. And their magic number is now 5 and 4 back of the yankies for best recorder in the American league.

Of all however the greatest heart break would be to see my Beloved Bronco’s fail in at the very least getting their BCS bowl, I find it Ironic that of every team I’ve mentioned here of all but one I have only gone to home games however the one team whom I have travelled to see I have only watched them in away games, this Friday I will attend my 3rd game ever for the Boise State Bronco’s and it too will be another away game as the previous in DC and in Glendale, yet it is the one I worry the least about failing it is the most complete team I have ever seen from coaching to the players to its depth and experience, this is truly going to be a magical year for my Boise State Bronco’s!
