I don’t care where you are this Saturday 2:30 est, if you are not watching Boise State seeks it’s revenge over the Nevada Wolf Pack for at the very least the first quarter, then you my reader are not a college football fan. To not grasp the enormity of the angst Boise State it’s player, coaches, city and Bronco Nation has over not only how we lost last year, but how the players and visiting fans were treated by the Wolf Pack fan base, well then you just were never really a college football fan to begin with.
Boise states players fueled by their home town fans, want blood, this isn’t just some other non-conference game on their schedule, this is payback time. Pay back for taking away what surely at the very least would have been a Rose Bowl appearance, pay back for the taunts the rushing crowd made towards the Boise State players on the field.
Most of us in Bronco nation have seen the photos of what appear to be elderly adult’s taunting Billy Winn and Shea Mc Clenllin. I marveled at their display of restrain in not breaking the wolf pack scum in two right there on the field, but make no mistake about it those moments are seared into their minds and they have a bill to deliver to the Wolf Pack Offense. Attitude is everything they say, and a deeply repressed hatred can be one hell of an attitude adjustment and motivator.
The first quarter of this game is a must see, and I don’t care if your favorite team is playing or even if you are a coach and or player playing in a game while it is happening. This game demands that rules be broken, assurances be taken to be seen whether live or recorded.
The first quarter is going to be a blood bath and Nevada knows it. There is no possible way not a single player doesn’t have some semblance of knowledge of just what it’s going to be like for them against this Bronco team, made up of so many of those that played that fateful Thursday night in miserable Reno. The Boise coaches have been drilling into the player’s mind the memories of the pain of that night and by kick off the emotional tide will be a tsunami bigger than the one that washed up on the Japanese homeland this year. Every hit will be purposeful; every hit will be delivered with the intention to release the demons each player on the Boise State has lived with over these last 10 months. Boise doesn’t just want to win this game; they want to beat them up, to punish them, neither to send a message nor to intimidate their future MWC member, no it’s all too personal for that. The message to be delivered is not so much to the wolf pack players on the field but to their fans in the stands and those home watching it on TV, and that message is you behaved poorly and for that your team will be properly punished, but it’s for the Boise fans as well, the team seeks to remedy the suffering of its people, to send Bronco Nation a message that it is now in the past we can all move forward from that God forsaken night.
So when Boise State and Nevada take the field this Saturday everyone there knows what the score is everyone there knows the bad intention and no doubt coach Alt will tell his team its they who need to send a message, he will equally motivate his team and prepare them for the reality of the foe they are to face, while assuring them they can take it. And here in lays the trap and what will without a doubt make this the must watch game. Nevada will try on the road to match Boise State’s intensity, and fight with all its ability to lay claim that they are if not better at least as good a program as Boise State.
The clashes will be great, the contact punishing, the game will at first appear to be more of a brawl then a game of strategy and skill. At some point someone is going to break and that breaking point will come when the wolf pack players will start to drop like flies and fade from the field, it is at this time many of you might want to turn away, as the cry from Bronco nation is just too great for vengeance for coach Pete to ignore. The demand from the masses is already been given, thumbs down, foot firmly on the pedal all the way to the floor, for once the back is broken and the wolf pack will to resist lays at the foot of the sidelines, a slaughter will commence, a slaughter the likes of which hasn’t been seen since the terrors of the Frwnch revolution, or on the battle fields of old Europe with the plucking of the long bow of Kellen Moore’s arm, the batter ram of Doug Martin will be like bursting down the castles gate, while Boise’s defense will be poised like those that manned the hot oil pot’s to poor out there vengeance only to ignite their opponent in flames.
In Boise States first two games as the dominated their opponents, they took mercy in the end by doing the victory formation to end the games in honor, last week against Tulsa coach Pete sent a message to his team that it’s time for the niceties of the game to be set aside as Boise chose to end its blow out win against Tulsa not by victory formation but by a viscous head crackling rush right up the gut on first down with little time remaining. The sounds of the crushing blows delivered were even more clearly herd as the Bronco crowd had long left for the exists, message sent, message delivered time for politeness was over time for punishment begins now!
