Boise State prez says goal is AQ status in BCS

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP)—Boise State president Robert Kustra says the university’s responsibility is to get the Broncos as close as possible to an automatic qualifying status in the BCS.

The Big East is expected to invite Boise State’s football program to join a reconfigured conference as soon as next week, but that might not be the best move for the Broncos at this time.

“I don’t have any idea right now … of who’s going to be in, who’s going to be out” in the Big East, Kustra told The Associated Press. “And so if anybody asked me today, if anybody invited me today, I wouldn’t know what I was getting invited to.”

Kustra makes a great point until we see a commitment from those already in the conference who knows what the future AQ status of that conference could be down the road.

Amid realignment talk, Big East to vote on raising exit fee

USATtoday

Monday, the Big East will vote on doubling its exit fee to $10million. The vote doesn’t have to be unanimous, but the measure does have widespread support from members, according to one official in the Big East who requested anonymity given the sensitivity of discussions.

A sign of unity is needed internally and externally to attract prospective members, the official said. The higher exit fee would also show stability. The Big East would like to add six teams to form a 12-team football league.

One has to wonder however if 10 Million is really enough to keep schools from leaving for the ACC or Big 12, not only could the money be raised by boasters to cover but increases in revinue from the new conferences could easily make up for the up front cost.

Air Force’s unique offense poses problems for Boise State football team

The Air Force football team ranks 10th in the nation in total offense — generating 506.3 yards per game.

“It will be as big of a challenge, without question, as we’ve seen this year,” Boise State coach Chris Petersen said. “It’s completely, totally unique and different, but every bit as big.”

“It’s hard in a week to get that thing timed out coming at you, the speed that it goes on game day,” Colorado State coach Steve Fairchild said. “That’s No. 1. The second thing that they present to your defense is they have a lot of adjustments, a lot of ways of doing things.”

No doubt it’s hard to prepare for option style football, mainly because it isn’t seen as often I look for Iloka and Cedric Febis to be challenged. After Colorado was able to trick up our safeties, I’m sure coach has been coaching them up all week. The good news they are both of very good size and speed so I look with the combination of Taylor,Ewing-Burton and Hunter White our defensive back field will carry the day and punish Air Forces running game. Look for Hunter White to have a break out game with hard hits causing a turnover or two, as well Ewing-Burton who has shown himself to be a hard hitting corner to get a couple of hard hits in this game.

I see Air Force trying to kill the clock to keep Kellen off the field and the scoring down, however like with other spread offense’s 3rd down will prove to be their Achilles heel. Boise will snuff out most 3rd and short and all 3rd and longs cutting short Air Force drives, this will certainly impact Air Forces ability to control the clock. While it is possible for the Bronco’s to start slow as seems to be their tendency at home the last couple years, Air Force lacking a real defense look for the Bronco’s to put this game away late in the 2nd qt.
