What a week to have a Blue Screen

First allow me to apologies for my absence this week of all weeks, I’m sorry!

However if you only knew the hell I have been through this week of weeks you would forgive me.

Between this being TCU game week and the Penn State Pedo scandal I feel I have missed out on so much as I was so wanting to fire up my CS5 Adobe and photoshop to no end Penn State, as well finish 2 video’s I had prepped for this week that once I got this computer back online yesterday I felt empty and devoid of substance.

Over last weekend while attempting to produce a Kellen Moore video, I had several crashed and blue screens. On Monday morning as I made the morning post I received a techy update from Microsoft which said, we don’t know for sure what your problem is but we think it’s one of the following, Bad Ram, Bad Power supply, Bad Mother Board, or Bad CPU good luck hope we were of some help!

After my days business was done I headed over to my second home Microcenter in Madison Heights Michigan, it a heavenly place for computer geeks like myself. As I’ve been doing business there for years, and what I do in my privet life is build Computer based DVR’s I do a lot of business there, so everyone knows me and I know them. Going over my issues with several people there, I always like to quiz as many people over issues as I can looking for the one the re-enforces my own personal beliefs on what my problem and solutions are, I settled on that I didn’t have a problem at all just needed a better video card. After purchasing the new video card and rushing home to install it, it appeared that I had only made my problem worse! Suddenly I found I couldn’t even log up to windows at all, being that I know enough to be dangerous and by this time Microcenter was closed I stayed up until 4 am trouble shooting it, calling all the manufacturers. ASUS believed the problem to be the power supply, however just in case it was the mother board they issued a RMA. At this point all I could do was go to bed and tackle the problem when I was finished with work.

The next morning just 4 hours later I had a service call out of town and I stopped by Microcenter on my way out to replace the mother board, unfortunately they only matching one they had was a refrebuished clearance board I snapped it up without talking to anyone and went about my day, By the time I had returned to my office it was 8 pm and I quickly got to work changing out the board. I build systems all the time so it wasn’t long before it was all back together, but to no avail same issue no change; the next step would have to wait until morning. Upon returning to microcenter early the next morning I spent time going completely over all the problems and everything I had done to date with the head of their service department. When I was done explaining this to him he looked up and said matter of fact “it’s your CPU,”  That is the last thing I wanted to hear, I so wanted it to be my power supply and believed to it to be so based on prior experience at this point. Unlike all the other parts a CPU once removed from its sealed box cannot be return, were as everything else we trouble shot could, thinking it would be worth the attempt to replace the power supply just in case to eliminate all other issues before jumping off the cliff that’s what I did and yes you guessed it, it wasn’t the power supply either. However I learned that it might still be the mother board I won’t bore you with the details of why but let’s just say ASUS only does a quick check on returned boards and the board I was using was having many issues over being used with the new AMD 6 core processors. So I really only had two choices in the end replace both CPU and Mother Board or go thought the replacement process with the manufactures to replace the defective parts.

Time didn’t allow for the latter but I was damned if I was going to drop $500.00 buying a new 6 core and mother board that I wouldn’t be able to recoup, so I purchase something that was strong enough to run my system while I awaited my replacements and that could be used on a dvr build so I purchased a X4 840, the only down side was the board with it wouldn’t allow for all 16 gig of ram but it could handle the work load I require.  Once installed and drivers updated the computer is running better than it had in months which leads me to believe it was just slowly dying on me and that last reboot with the new video card was its last hurrah.

Now to get an RMA from AMD on the processor, well I had never had a processor go bad on me before and never had the need to call intel or AMD before, boy was I in for a wakeup call.

I go to their web site there is no contact info for service however they have an application process for returns, AN APPLICATION PROCCESS I thought WTF? I get the box the 1090T came in got out the manual struggled to get to the English section of it and began to read the Warranty information. .OMG!!

The warranty basically said even if it is defective we don’t have to cover it! So back to the website and their warranty application, it’s a 4 part question and answers and what we absolutely will not cover. So when I get to part 3 after filling in all the S/N’s and answering all the other question is all about what will not be covered with pictures showing examples. One picture was of slightly bent pins. Now as you can imagine a heat sink and processor that have been married together for 9 months didn’t want to part, so when I lifted it out of the mother board it brought heat sink and processor up together, so I decided I better look the pins over and sure enough there was a slight bend  row of pin’s and I could just see it now so dude you have bends in your pins your SOL. I’ve seen this before in my years and certainly bent pins before so I thought well let’s see if we can straighten them out, that didn’t work and they only got worse, what I could do. Once to part 4 of the repair application they wanted you to give a detailed description of the problem, so I detailed everything that had taken place explaining the damage and how it happened.

After submitting my application I waited in anticipation to their response, not knowing if they would issue me an RMA or not, I believe my explanation to be clear and all the details of which there was much all verifiable to back up my account, being able to submit the s/n of the replacement CPU as well the details of the ASUS RMA backed up what had transpired, but still I didn’t put much hope that it would be accepted nor approved, then came this morning sitting in my email was not 1 but to approvals of replacement, one I believe was just a generic approval the other from a tech himself providing additional mailing information so that my CPU would go directly to him to assure quit and Hassle free replacement along with his name and direct phone line YEHHHHHHHHHHH Babe!.

So the lesson learned here Joe Pa the truth will set you free!

How about a little Frog in the Blender game?

Cover Two: Should Boise State jump Alabama?

Boise State (Parker Garrett)

The fallout from “the game of the century” this past weekend between LSU (9-0, 6-0) and Alabama (8-1, 5-1) leaves much speculation in the air as to what is going to happen in the BCS in the coming weeks. Now, if both LSU and Oklahoma State stay undefeated that will most likely be your national championship game right there. However, OSU (9-0, 6-0) still has Oklahoma (8-1, 5-1) on its schedule, and undefeated Stanford has tough conference opponent Oregon at home this weekend. If either of these teams fall in this last quarter of the season it opens the door for several teams to make a run at the title, and the two front runners are Boise State (8-0, 3-0) and the aforementioned Alabama.

Again, this is all speculation and a lot of things would have to fall into place for this scenario to come up, but should it come down to either the Crimson Tide or the Broncos, Boise gets the nod. Boise State has done everything in their power to increase their credentials and make it to the level of the major conference schools. They went to Georgia at the beginning of the season and easily handled a top-25 SEC team. Since then they’ve dominated the rest of their conference schedule, beating Air Force by 11 and every other team by at least 20. The biggest knock against Boise State is their strength of schedule, but they can only do so much in boosting this and they have done everything they were supposed to as far as this season is concerned.

Another reason Boise State should go ahead of Alabama is that they are better suited to take on the Tigers. Yes, Alabama has an excellent defense and talent on the offensive side, but the veteran presence of the Broncos is the X-factor that sets them apart. They’ve shown in the past that they can compete with the powerhouses of the NCAA and this year’s team is no different. Also, the Broncos have the ability to make it a more exciting game. Although the LSU and Alabama game had a lot of hype and was a great defensive battle, having a national championship resulting in a 9-6 win just isn’t as entertaining to the casual college football fan. Also, if Alabama were to go to the title game and beat LSU it would leave most people unfulfilled knowing that the season series was tied one to one.

Boise has been left out of the championship game before and still gone undefeated. They deserve a chance, at least once.

Boise State has the potential to beat anyone with leadership at key positions and an experienced coaching staff. They are no strangers to big games and they know what it takes to win them. They have been waiting for their opportunity to compete for a national championship and I believe this is the year, assuming Oklahoma State and Stanford both lose. Alabama had their shot at LSU already this season and now Boise should have their turn. Though they hail from the Mountain West Conference, the days where Boise State was considered a Mid-Major are long gone. The Broncos are legitimate contenders year in and year out and they deserve the opportunity to prove themselves on the biggest stage college football offers against the best competition in the nation.

Mr. Garrett makes great points across the board but none better then his opinion that Boise State is “better suited to take on the Tigers”

Boise State no BCS title contender

By GIL LEBRETON

A week ago in Las Vegas, Boise led the 2-6 Rebels by 21-14 at the half.

Yes, good teams sometimes have slow starts. But isn’t the would-be No. 2 team in the nation supposed to blow the doors off a team like UNLV?

Thus, Boise sits quietly in fifth, not second, in the latest BCS standings. And even when the Broncos try to run up the score on TCU on Saturday, the voters aren’t likely to be overwhelmed.

Boise. Yawn.

Even my old ESPN pal Rod Gilmore sounds as if he’s jumped off the Boise bandwagon.

In ESPN’s weekly college football podcast this week, Gilmore said, “I think it’s going to be hard for Boise State to sell people this year – that going undefeated with this team is going to trump a one-loss Alabama, a one-loss Oklahoma, a one-loss Oregon.

“I think that’s a harder argument for Boise State this year, because not as much on the schedule and not as much dynamic play offensively.”

Gilmore’s partner Joe Tessitore echoed those feelings.

“It’s not just that they’ve had an easier path,” Tessitore said. “If this year’s Boise team played last year’s Boise team, last year’s team would win by two possessions.

“To me, this Boise team is living off the accomplishments of last year’s team.”

Without a compelling Boise State team, in other words, voters are going to vote for the BCS matchup that they most want to see.

Boise’s dwindling supporters may argue that America would love to see how quarterback Kellen Moore does against a great defense like LSU’s.

But we’ve already seen that – twice in the past three seasons. And TCU’s No. 1-rated defense held Moore without a touchdown pass each time.

Unfortunately for the Horned Frogs, they don’t have that kind of dominating defense this season. The Frogs were further skewered when newcomer Boise State whined, and the MWC moved Saturday’s game to the blue turf.

Fine, whatever. Boise State will try to make its BCS statement Saturday.

It won’t be enough, though, Cinderella. You can’t fit in old shoes.

For me it all sounds like sour Grapes, I’m still trying to graspe how the loss of 4 Defensive starters who appear to be replaced by I dare say better 5th year seniors in most cases and 2 offensive starters who have been replaced by Kellen throwing for more yardage higher completion percentage then at this point last year with so far has been a much tuffer schedule? someone explain to me so I might better understand how last years team was so much better and deserving of consideration then this years team lead by 14 return senior starters many of whom are fith year players some have been sarting since their freshmen year? No teamin the Nation has that much experance playing on both sides of the ball.

What is Gary Patterson trying to say?

I have read story after story of Coach Patterson talking about how the game was moved to Boise after they announce the Horn Forgs were jumping to the big east, and now that some believe Boise State will soon too be making that jump the game should be changed back to Fort Worth? Add in his repeated quotes about Boise needing to make a statement by blowing TCU out I am very confused to find any clarity of thought coming from Coach Patterson.

“They need to make a statement in this ball game,” said TCU head coach Gary Patterson.”They’re not going to try and beat us, they need to try and beat us bad.”

“I think it’s kind of ironic that if they do leave and go to the Big East, for all the things that everybody did for them, that they no longer will be there either,” Patterson said.

Boise State will be ready for TCU this time

The rubber match between the Broncos and Horned Frogs became controversial months before the season even began.

As an act of spite toward one school leaving and another entering, the Mountain West Conference decided to move the location of this year’s game from Fort Worth – where it would’ve been had the Broncos taken Utah’s schedule for the 2011 season, as expected – to Boise.

Both teams have an unbelievable home field advantage, and the MWC surely knew the implications of its move. But the change in location is just another motivational tool for TCU head coach Gary Patterson, who’ll use every tactic at his disposal to fire up his team.

While fans outside of Fort Worth have mostly forgotten about the Frogs following their run to the Rose Bowl crown, they also don’t realize how close this year’s group is to being undefeated once again. TCU missed two field goals and scored 25 unanswered fourth-quarter points before falling to Baylor, and they came back from 16 points down to force overtime before a home loss against SMU.

But a 7-2 record is far from perfect, so many expect the Broncos to prevail, perhaps in easy fashion.

Before Saturday’s showdown to determine the 2011 Mountain West champion, here’s a look at how the two teams stack up against each other.

Read More here.

No doubt the Bronco’s will be ready, for me this game comes down to Kellen and Doug Martin getting off to a fast start, one feeds the other. Kellen hasn’t played his best ball against TCU in the past this being his last chance at playing them and making up for to poor preformances in the past will dictate the point totals in the end. I believe when you look at Kellens bowl game tape you see him over thinking Kellen is a coaches QB and is a known filmholic when given weeks to prepare for a game I see him thinking too much which takes time in the pocket so by the time he decides where to throw the ball he’s been under pressure and missed wide open receivers, you can see this both in the 2010 Fiesta bowl where he over threw a couple deep passes that would of blown the game out early and last year against Utah. With only 1 week to prepare and being in season stride this should be Kellens brake out game against TCU. I believe as well unlike years past where TCU’s defense only had to concentrate their coverage’s on Titus, Young and the Tight ends, this year’s team puts way more pressure on TCU’s coverage packages, add in Doug Martins ability to catch passes out of the back field and turn them into big plays I see Boise States offense stretching TCU’s Defense like it has never done in the past.

If Boise State is able to rack up two consecutive first downs on their first possession it will be a very long and ugly game for TCU if not we might be in for a nice repeat of the Air Force game which is fine with me.

My Take on Penn States Pedo ring

Without a doubt this is the most explosive event that has ever happened to college football.

I’ve read the Grand Jury’s statement, it was gut wrenching and hard to read but it is a must read as it is also very informative in how these viscous predators prey on their victims.

Clearly everyone at Penn State knew to include Joe Pa, clearly they cared more about their schools image then they did about the victims and or future victims. Clearly they knew something wasn’t right with Sandusky as early as 1998 and after the shower discovery in 2002 they knew they could no longer risk having him on the team. This however is where things get confusing , if you knew enough to part ways with him on the football team why didn’t you sever all ties, why allow him any rights what so ever to the campus? What Penn State said to the pedophile Sandusky was, we don’t care that you are abusing children just don’t do it here! Let that sink in for a moment if it hasn’t occurred to you already.

What kind of person is Joe the enabler, that would allow such an arrangement after enough was known to let your good friend of so many years go? How does a program or the school for that matter after 1998 let what at that time was the future of their program go without knowing the severity of his crimes? Once you realize they knew full well the severity of his crimes how on earth do you allow him to continue any relationship let alone one that is given to retired tenured professor? Keys to the locker room total access? Then in 2002 the reports of the shower and all you do is tell him he can’t bring minor children on campus anymore? No doubt before this is all said and done it will go much deeper, there is just no way anyone of principle would allow such a person such benefits knowing what they knew unless??? And here is where the speculation will come in it’s the unless, unless those at the top were corrupted in some way. The devil doesn’t play fair and one can be sure the Pedo Sandusky had something on them, what we don’t know but it was something that so feared the AD Joe Pa and the President of the University that they protected him and gave him bennies, some might speculate it was that they were all pedophiles and that very well could be. I see Joe Pa in a whole new light today and when I see him now it kind of looks like he either is wearing a girdle or has grown some tit’s I don’t know but he just doesn’t look right to me anymore has that creepy factor now that went unnoticed before, where he once looked eccentric now he appears monster like, maybe it’s just me. Then again just what kind of people protects such a man as the Pedo Sandusky? Certainly these people cared way more about themselves then they did society as they knew who and what he was and did nothing to protect not just the children but the school and families and associates.  Everyone one that knew anything about Sandusky is just as guilty as the Pedo Sandusky himself, there is no difference between them and him.

Certainly at the end of the season everyone that was on the coaching staff and worked within the University that knew any of this should be gone, as for the new intern coach talking so highly for Joe Pa sorry all you did was seal your fate to a known pedo enabler and you yourself where around you just as much as Joe, if Joe was the second best man you knew next to your father I surely hope your father is a better man they you and I’d advise you get some new male friends because in my book Joe Pa is dirt, scum, a selfish old man who cared nothing about thing other than himself, blind to simple facts that exposing the Pedo Sandusky years ago was not only the right thing to do but the smart thing, which in the end shows he wasn’t that bright of a bulb to begin with. Just because a man can coach X’& O’s doesn’t mean he know his head from his arse hole!

Whatever turn out to be the reason why Penn State enabled the Pedo Sandusky are then end result should be tossed out of the B1G, death to their football program, those that run Penn State have shown Penn State doesn’t belong with the rest of us.

Let this be a lesson to all, no matter what the pain no matter what the punishment it’s better to cut the cancer out and deal with it then to let evil walk amongst you.

Penn State should be punished, with every possible punishment not just because of the crimes it enable, but to send a loud clear message that imitational corruption on this scale will be met with punishment much more saver then what would of happened in 1998 if they would of just came clean regardless of the other problems that allowed the Pedo Sandusky to hold them hostage. Even if there is no other reason that just makes it all the more worse in my book to enable a pedo for no reason at all other than your perceived ideas of what others might think.

If it was a perfect world and things could happen quicker this is what I would like to see happen, Penn State losses all federal aid all state aid, kick out of the B1G, all its games since coming into the B1G forfeited, football program over ! The NCAA to allow all student athletes to transfer immediately.

But it’s not a perfect world and we will have to wait as more and more come out and more and more question are made the pain will be continued.
