Greetings Blue Turf fans! As a new contributor I felt I should introduce myself to you by letting you know why I am a Boise State fan. It seems appropriate to write about why someone becomes a Bronco fan and stays a Bronco fan. With the recent loss to TCU still fresh in the minds of Bronco Nation this is the perfect time. Many of the bandwagon fans have stopped drinking from the Blue and Orange fountain. It’s now that all the naysayers come out of the woodwork with the “I told you so’s”. To them, I say thank you for showing your true colors. As for me, I am true blue and always will be.
It goes much deeper than my love for the game of football or the same feeling about college ball. It has more to do with what the Boise State Broncos mean to the community of Boise and it’s true fans around the country. I was born and raised in Boise, Idaho. I played my High School football games at the then 20,000 seat Bronco Stadium. At that time the turf was green, yes, I said green! The football team had won a National Championship in 1980. The streak with in state rival Idaho was in favor of the black and gold. But we never lost hope in the Broncos.
No matter what was going on in the community, we always had Boise State football to look forward to. The true Bronco fans suffered through the Idaho streak, the Skip Hall era, and the death of Coach Pokey Allen. R.I.P. Coach! You see many of the bandwagon fans don’t realize that Boise State has always had success. We are the little engine that could, did, and will continue to do so. See for me Boise State represents the hard working person that is willing to help anyone in need. The individual with more integrity in their fingernail than the average guy. See, we Bronco fans are a proud bunch. It’s becuase we know that no matter what kid is representing Boise State on the field he is going to give it all win or lose.
