Houston Dynamo Look to Start Winning Streak

The Houston Dynamo look to start a win streak today as they take on the New England Revolution at Robertson Stadium on the campus of the Universuty of Houston. The Dynamo are coming off a 3-1 win last week against Vancouver with rookie forward Will Bruin getting his first career Major League Soccer goal.

Dynamo forwards Cam Weaver and Will Bruin

Houston will look to keep their offensive output going again this week without captain Brian Ching. The Hawaiian forward is still nursing a rib seperation he got when crashing into New York Red Bulls goalkeeper Bouna Condoul two weeks ago. With Ching out the Dynamo will likely start Bruin and Cam Weaver up front again. Weaver leads the team this season with two goals. Houston signed Spanish striker Sergio Koke this week from Greek side Aris but he will not be available for today’s game.

The other big injury concerm for the Dynamo is Jamaican center back Jermaine Taylor. Taylor injured his foot during a friendly with the national team and has not played since the opening game against Philadelphia. With Taylor out Houston will again likely start Bobby Boswell and Andre Hainault in the center of defense. With Hainault moving to the center, Hunter Freeman and Kofi Sarkodie will likely be the outside defenders.

New England will be without midfielders Shalrie Joseph and Pat Phelan after each received red cards in the Revolution’s last game against Real Salt Lake. Defender Didier Domi is also likely out with a hamstring strain. New England’s attack could be boosted by new signing Rajko Lekic. The Danish forward has flown to Houston and should be available for selection tonight.

The Dynamo will not be in their customary orange jerseys at home tonight. Instead they will be a special white jersey to celebrate Earth Day along with their sponsor Greenstar Energy. Maybe making the Revolution wear their dark jerseys was also a tactical move as it should be warm and humid in Houston at game time. Jersey colors aside the Dynamo will have to get Geoff Cameron and Brad Davis going forward to continue their attack. A second win of 2011 and a win streak are on the line.
