Red Bulls Return Home to Take On Chivas

The New York Red Bulls return home this weekend to take on Chivas USA. After an eventful draw at LA last week, the Red Bulls will look to extend their unbeaten streak to five games. Chivas USA is coming to Red Bull Arena off of a loss to Real Salt Lake.

Teemu Tainio

New York’s lineup will remain the same as Luke Rodgers and Teemu Tainio received the green light to rejoin the team after suffering injuries. Both Rodgers and Tainio received knocks last week against LA and had to be subbed out of the game. With Rodgers and Taino back on the field, the Red Bulls roster will be solid. Forward Thierry Henry has been hot ever since regaining his scoring skill. Henry scored the only goal last week against LA, which received the Goal of the Week award. He will certainly test a weak Chivas defense, especially with Luke Rodgers beside him.

The Red Bulls’ defense is stronger than ever, only allowing one goal in four games. The defense could possibly be unchallenged during this game as Chivas will be missing key players. Former Red Bulls player Andrew Boyens is suspended for this match after yellow card accumulation. His absence in the backline may allow Michael Lahoud to take over as a right back. Justin Braun will most likely be called up to replace Marcos Mondaini. Mondaini was ejected last week against Real Salt Lake when he made a controversial tackle from behind on Javier Morales. Morales suffered an ankle fracture and Mondaini will be suspended until June 1. Braun will have a lot of pressure on him to fill Mondaini’s spot.

The New York Red Bulls sit atop the Eastern Conference with 15 points. Chivas USA are currently in 7th place in the Western Conference.
