It’s week four of our top 5 as voted on by the Total-MLS writers. Once again, there are a lot of teams looking to break into the top 5. Again this week, nine teams received votes and we have a new number 1. Let’s have a look at the top 5 for Week 9.
1. Los Angeles Galaxy – The Galaxy routed Sporting KC Saturday and vaulted from thrid to the top of our rankings. They received first place votes from all but three writers (two seconds and a third). We’ll see if they can stay hot heading in to the Super Clasico.
2. New York Red Bulls – New York suffered a surprising home loss on Saturday to Chivas USA and now must travel to face conference rivals Houston. If Thierry Henry can keep scoring goals, they should be able to bounce back. The Red Bulls received one first place vote and a mjority of second and third place votes to go along with two fourths.
3. Real Salt Lake – RSL were held scoreless at home in a nil-nil draw with Houston. With their injuries and tough early season schedule, can Salt Lake regain their league form? They got one first place vote and a wide array of votes from second to fourth.
4. FC Dallas – Dallas leaps into the rankings having never even received a vote before. They may be the hottest team in the league (with LA) and could continue to climb. They received one first place vote, three seconds and a sprinkling of thirds, fourths, and fifths.
5. Seattle Sounders – Again this week it was a very, very close battle for the fifth spot in our rankings but the Sounders take it. After a home draw with Portland they got one fourth place vote and the rest fifths.
Others receiving votes: Philadelphia Union, Portland Timbers, Colorado Rapids, Houston Dynamo
