It’s week seven of our top 5 as voted on by the Total-MLS writers. After last week, things began getting a little clearer in the top 5. This week, just seven teams received votes again and our number one team holds on to the top spot for a fourth straight week. Let’s have a look at the top 5 for Week 12.
1. Los Angeles Galaxy – A scoreless draw at home against DC didn’t hurt the Galaxy as they remain in the top spot. They’ve got teams closing fast behind them so we’ll see if they can make it a fifth straight week at number one. They received first place votes from all but three writers (three thirds).
2. FC Dallas – FC Dallas continued to win as they beat New England 1-0. Dallas is closing in on LA for the top spot. They received two first place votes and the remainder were second and third place votes. One writer did not vote them in the top 5.
3. Real Salt Lake – After a week out of the top 5, RSL returns in the third spot. After a win over Vancouver, are they back on the right track? Real Salt Lake got one first place vote and a wide range of votes from second to fifth. They were not voted for by two writers.
4. Philadelphia Union – The West is clearly the best so far this season in Major League Soccer as the Union are the first East team to appear in the top 5 this week. The Eastern Conference leaders drop to fourth after a draw against Colorado. The Union received three second place votes, one third place voted and the rest were fourths and fifths.
5. Seattle Sounders – The Sounders hold on to the fifth spot again this week after a draw with the Fire. With Seattle rounding out the top 5, this makes four of our top five from the Western Conference. Seattle stays in the fifth spot with votes ranging from third to fifth. They were not voted for by three writers.
Others receiving votes: New York Red Bulls, DC United
