Earlier today it was reported and has been verified that Davis Paul, waived by the Chicago Fire just one week ago, is currently on trial with Seattle Sounders FC. Paul, a product of Cal and the 15th selection in third round (51st overall) of the 2011 MLS SuperDraft, will spend two weeks with the team on trial, hoping to make an impact big enough to convince Sigi Schmidt to sign him.
Paul garnered the attention of Schmidt & co. back during preseason, when he was still unsigned by the Fire. He signed with Chicago just before the start of the season to a non-guaranteed contract at the league minimum salary. He saw play in one match with Chicago, at home against LA Galaxy in April, where he played 45 minutes.
Paul has some potential options moving forward, as there were other teams interested in his talents before the start of the season as well. Where he may end up remains to be seen, although with his ball handling ability and quickness, he may be able to find a midfield spot in another MLS system that will better suit him than the deep and competitive midfield roster that he was a part of in Chicago.
