Earthquakes Looking for Goals

The San Jose Earthquakes are dying for an offensive spark. Tuesday’s exhibition match against West Bromwich Albion of the English Premier League, showed the Quakes can score, given the chance, including the wonder-goal by goalie David Bingham.

The last San Jose goal was by midfielder Khari Stephenson from a long 35 yards away.

Creating chances inside the box have been limited, which can be pointed to these issues:

1. A forward with speed hasn’t been used.

2. Wondo is one of the best finishers but hasn’t received quality services.

3. Lenhart is a great winner of the long ball but hasn’t provided the assists.

Tuesday’s match showed some promising hopes from the Quakes’ B team, namely the newly signed Mexican midfielder Baca and speedy midfielder/forward Omar Jasseh.

With the new trade acquisitions, the Quakes fulfill three needed positions: right wing (Jacob Peterson), center back (Nana Attakora) and forward (Alan Gordon). Gordon, a big target forward, could be used as a sub, and if he improves, paired with a fast forward like Jasseh.

San Jose’s next match is with the Columbus Crew. Let’s see what Coach Yallop will modify in the lineup.

Here is my suggested Earthquakes’ lineup and substitutes for Saturday’s match.
