2013 NFL Free Agency : TE Delanie Walker Leaves 49ers, Signs With Titans

Baltimore 483

The Tennessee Titans didn’t waste an opportunity in finding a replacement for tight end Jared Cook who is being heavily sought out by the St. Louis Rams and Miami Dolphins. Tennesee would sign former San Francisco 49er tight end Delanie Walker to a four-year deal. Financial details haven’t been released.

In 2012, Walker caught 21 passes for 344 yards, a long of 45 and three touchdowns. He also made a big impact on special teams and during the Super Bowl made a memorable tackle on the Baltimore Ravens return man Jacoby Jones.

Walker would struggle with drops and adjusting to Colin Kaepernick taking over as the starting quarterback after Alex Smith suffered a concussion.  His yardage this season represented a career high along with the three touchdowns and in 2010 caught 29 passes the most in his seven seasons with the 49ers.

As one of the fastest tight ends in the league and an excellent blocker, Walker gives Titans quarterback Jake Locker an excellent replacement for the departed Cook.

Walker will have a career season in 2013 if Kenny Britt can stay healthy and Chris Johnson returns to his previous form as he will have a bigger role on offense for the Titans.
