The New York Knicks were bound for the playoffs with a great chance to make a deep run. Injuries have piled up recently and those aspirations got cut short.
Carmelo Anthony, Tyson Chandler, and A’mare Stoudemire all have wound up hurt of late. Anthony had played great basketball up until that point keeping the Knicks close to the no.2 spot in the Eastern Conference. He tried to play through the injury to disastrous results, so he’s not playing.
Coach Mike Woodson took the blame for playing Anthony even though he was complaining about the knee.
As for Chandler, he went down with a knee injury and got diagnosed with a bruised right knee. This is arguably the worst case scenario for the Knicks has he provides the interior defense and rebounding. He must get healthy for a chance in the playoffs.
A’mare’s was looking like his old self again before again being forced to undergo a knee procedure that ended his season. Right now, it has forced New York to rely on veterans Kenyon Martin, Kurt Thomas and Marcus Camby.
As the season draws to a close, Anthony’s and Chandler’s health will play a major role on how far the team will go in the playoffs and if both aren’t close to 100 percent a first round exit isn’t out of the question.
