CLEVELAND — According to multiple media reports, the Chicago White Sox have agreed to a deal in principle to ship right-hander Jake Peavy to the Boston Red Sox, pending a review of medical records.
Per reports, The White Sox will receive OF Avisail Garcia from the AL Central rival Detroit Tigers and lower-level minor league prospects from the Red Sox, and the Tigers are to receive shortstop Jose Iglesias from Boston.
Peavy, 32, who would be scratched from his road start Tuesday night against the Cleveland Indians, has been the subject of multiple trade rumors before the July 31 non-waive trade deadline, was replaced by 25-year-old André Rienzo, the first-ever Brazilian to pitch in a MLB game.
For the 2013 season, Peavy has a record of 8-4, an ERA of 4.28, 76 strikeouts and a career best 4.47 K/BB ratio in 13 starts. An All-Star in 2012, the former 2007 NL Cy Young winner is due $14.5 million in 2014 and a vesting option in 2015.
