2013 MLB Wild Card : Red-Hot Indians Claim Top WC Spot, Control Their Own Destiny

MINNEAPOLIS – With another win against the Minnesota Twins, the red-hot (91-70)Cleveland Indians continued their improbable push towards the MLB post-season.

Thanks to a two-run home run by Carlos Santana and timely hits from Michael Bourn and Jason Kipnis, the Indians grabbed a much-needed 5-1 win against the Twins to move into sole possession of the first wild-card slot and home-field advantage in a one-game playoff.

If the Indians win on Sunday, they would face either the Texas Rangers or the Tampa Bay Rays(both 90-71) at home.

If Cleveland loses on Sunday and both Texas and Tampa Bay tie, Cleveland would host the Rays on Monday with the winner going to the post-season and the loser going down into Arlington to face the Rangers for the second wild-card.

Confused yet?  You’re not the only one.

If there is a tie for the second wild-card, there would be a one-game tiebreaker on Monday. Tampa would host Cleveland, The Rangers would host the Rays, or Cleveland would host Texas with the two wild cards meeting Wednesday to decide who advances to the American League Division Series against the Boston Red Sox.

In layman’s term’s the Indians control their destiny at this point, and in winning 14 out of their last 16 games, all they have to do now is sweep the Twins and they are in, and get the chance to play art least one more game at the Jake.

Simple enough, right?
