After scoring a touchdown in UCLA’s 35-14 win over rival USC Saturday night, Bruin freshman Myles Jack received some good news on Monday. He got  named both the Pac-12 Defensive and Offensive Freshman of the Year. Making it the first time a player has taken home both awards.

Jack had a great season for UCLA on both sides of the ball, becoming a key contributor for the team that finished 9-3 record in the regular season with a to-be-determined bowl game in their sights.

On defense, the linebacker compiled 70 tackles, one interception, one forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries. Offensively, the Bellevue, Washington native burst onto the scene as a running back with a 120-yard, one touchdown performance against Arizona in early November on only six carries.

While originally needed out of necessity due to the Bruins suffering a litany of injuries at the running back position, Jack has become a very dependable option for the Bruins, primarily in the redzone. In 37 carries this year, Jack rushed for 267 yards and seven touchdowns, excellent production considering he only began receiving playing time in the backfield during that game against Arizona on November 9.

This accolade looks to be the first of many for Jack in his college career, as he is now a proven force on both sides for UCLA and will continue to be as long as he stays healthy.
