Have a little spare change? You can own a piece of baseball history.  Babe Ruth’s 1923 Series Watch is coming up for bid February 22nd at Heritage Auctions, a Dallas based auction house.

1923 was a particularly important year in baseball, and the New York Yankees in particular.  It was the year that they moved into Yankee Stadium, and the first Series win of the franchise’s 27 such championships.

The now famous World Series rings were once watches given to the winning teams. The watch, which has not been heard about for years, was possibly thought to have been lost.

Steve Costello, of Steiner Sports collectibles, said “A lot of items from that era were lost or discarded, so the fact that the watch reappeared… obviously it is of historical significance.”

The auction will take place on February 22nd, and the 14 carat gold timepiece is expected to fetch in the neighborhood of $750,000, with some speculating it could reach seven-figures.  Now that’s alot of spare change.
