Watkins underwent foot surgery in May, then had six catches for 63 yards in two games before going on injured reserve.
The 23-year-old Watkins led the Bills in receptions (60), receiving yards (1,047) and touchdowns (nine) last season. As a rookie in 2014, he was second on the team with 65 receptions, one behind Fred Jackson, and led the team in receiving yards (982) and touchdowns (six).
The Bills were 1-2 at the time Watkins went on IR. Since then, the complexion of their season has changed with a 16-0 win at New England and a 30-19 win at Los Angeles
Now that the franchise’s first playoff berth since 1999 looks realistic, the Bills want to leave a light on for Watkins.
