Max and I watched most of the Red Sox-Astros final tune up (exhibition) game last night. We came away with a few observations and I’m going to share them because I don’t think many of you watched the game.
Josh Beckett looked really good. He gave up one hit over 5 innings. This is a good sign as the only difference between last night’s game and todays (OPENING DAY games) is the uniforms. Both teams started the same position players that will make up the starting lineups. If Beckett is this good all year, the Sox will be unstoppable.
Nelson Figueroa is Terrible, with a capital T. He walked four in the first inning, giving up 5 runs. He looked really bad in what amounted to a regular season game. Good News is: we did not think the Astros were going to be good this year.
Big Pappi is Big Slowey: Not only can dude not run, Ortiz’s bat speed is not quick. It must really be slow for me to be able to tell while watching on television. From what I saw yesterday, expect another terrible April from Pappi.
Adrian Gonzalez speaks perfect English. They did an interview with him, and it sounded like a typical college student. He had no accent, stutter, or problems communicating with the pretty interview lady. Perhaps I should not admit it but, I expected him to give interviews in Spanish similar to Miguel Cabrera, Robinson Cano, or Sammy Sosa in front of Congress. Don’t make the same ignorant mistake that I did– you have been warned.
Enjoy today’s games. I know I will.
