I would be a great choice. I’m smart, I work well with others, and I’m a team player. I would bring a decade and a half of playing experience, two decades of fandom, and about a year of baseball blogging experience with me. I’m definitely what you would consider well informed. I’m audacious enough to make the big move but wise enough to know when to stand firm. I have about a week more than 2 1/2 years of college education and, though I’ve never been to Los Angeles, I know I would fit in great.
I know that money is always important and if I want to be part of an ownership group I would have to bring more than baseball expertise with me. So, I hereby pledge 100% of the half the proceeds of this blog (my share) towards the purchase and operation of the Dodgers.
Still not convinced? Here are just a few of the things I would do as part-owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers:
- Aggressively pursue Prince Fielder: James Loney is currently a below-average offensive first basemen. He has well below average power for the position power and his .280’s average isn’t striking fear into the hearts of anyone. Fielder would be a welcome addition to the lineup and would fit in perfectly behind MVP runner up Matt Kemp. Also, Fielder would be a nice way to steal back some of the attention stolen when the Angels signed Albert Pujols.
- Save up for Cole Hamels: Hamels is one of the premiere pitchers in baseball and coupling him with reigning Cy Young Award winner Clayton Kershaw would give the Dodgers 2 of the top 5 or so lefties in all of baseball. One more arm and ours would be a team no one would want to see in October.
- Trade for a big time infielder: Prince Fielder isn’t enough. Mark Ellis, Dee Gordon, and Juan Uribe just don’t cut it. These are the Dodgers were talking about, The Dodgers! This is the crown jewel of baseball franchises (don’t give me the that about the Cubs, Red Sox, or Yankees, I’m auditioning for a job, remember?) it deserves, requires, and demands the best! This would be a stacked lineup with Fielder, Kemp, Andre Ethier and Hanley Ramirez in it, don’t you think?
- Attempt to have any record of Frank McCourt expunged from the record: What record? Every Record!
This was just a taste, the ownership group that hires me will get myriad more great ideas (hint: Fielder bellies instead of Manny dreadlocks (we’ve really got to sign that guy)). I’m qualified, articulate, have no embarrassing baggage, have a definite funding strategy (your reading it), and would look really great standing next to someone important at a podium.
Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from you about this exiting Major League Baseball ownership opportunity.
