Another Win for Sixers Through a Loss

A week ago Sean informed me that he needed people to post write ups on several games while he was in Costa Rica. I was reluctant to oblige, but ultimately Sean sold me on contributing because Saturday’s game would feature a stellar matchup of dynamic point guards in Ty “Whateverymyshitmeanandobscene” Lawson and MCW. Of course as we all know now, Lawson sat out with a hamstring injury and Carter-Williams was out with a skin infection. In short, thanks to Sean I got to spend a chunk of my Saturday night watching a heavy dose of Miller and Wroten going at one another (relax Sean, I’m not disparaging Wroten). In reality, what I’m saying is I spent a good part of the night wondering as to what could have been had Lawson and MCW been dictating the action and that is when a few questions came to mind.

Lawson pushes a torrid pace and the Nuggets have surrounded him with big men that compliment this well in Faried and McGee (I am one of the people who thought McGee was going to take things to the next level this year prior to his injury). The youthful Sixers run a similar fast tempo and I am eager to see how Noel will fit in this scheme. He has the potential to be the perfect guy for the job, and if he and MCW grow together over the years the Sixers have a solid foundation. However, I’m of the opinion that Noel will not be a superstar in this league so while a MCW and Noel combo will serve as a base, who will the Sixers target as the final piece in the patented NBA formula of a Big 3? I don’t see a clear cut favorite among current NBA superstars that would be the ideal candidate, so Saturday’s game made it clearer than ever to me that the Sixers better find that third piece in this year’s draft. If they don’t, the Sixers will be doomed to follow in the footsteps of the Nuggets where they will be an exciting team to watch and competitive through the Playoffs, but no one will take them seriously as a NBA Championship contender.
