Happy Monday, everyone! There’s not a lot of actionable Sixers news at the moment (and it’s hard to concentrate over the sound of millions of Eagles fans still bashing their heads against a wall), so I’d encourage you to visit my two pieces on Today’s Fast Break from last week.
First, I wrote about how much scoring the Sixers can expect from Jahlil Okafor this season. Here’s a short excerpt:
Expecting 20 PPG from the former Blue Devil heading into his first year as a 19-year-old professional is probably unrealistic. First off, there were only 20 players in the entire NBA who even surpassed that threshold last season. Additionally, it’s difficult for rookies to step right in and dominate at such a high level; Blake Griffinwas the last rookie to pull off the feat, averaging 22.5 PPG in 2010-11.
Then, I put into historical perspective how impressive Hollis Thompson’s shooting was his first two seasons. Again, here’s a bit of it:
In the 2013-14 season, Thompson was one of only 19 players in NBA history to shoot 40 percent or better from three in his rookie season (min. 150 attempts), joining Hersey Hawkins as the only Sixers to ever pull off the feat. Thompson proved to be no one-hit wonder, shooting an identical 40.1 percent last year to become one of still just 39 players to do it in their sophomore campaign.
Training camp is almost here; personally, I can’t wait for some actual news to break out once the Sixers return to the hardwood.
