Minnesota Timberwolves head coach Tom Thibodeau might not have the patience for his young guys to develop.
The Timberwolves sit 11th in the Western Conference at 4-7. A young core featuring Karl-Anthony Towns, Ricky Rubio, Zach LaVine and Andrew Wiggins has yet to prove it can win games and compete in the conference.
According to Bleacher Report’s Ric Bucher, the Timberwolves could look to move a young player in exchange for a veteran Thibodeau trusts.
Bucher specifically mentions Luol Deng of the Los Angeles Lakers as a guy the Timberwolves could target.
More interesting, though, is who the team might trade. Rubio hasn’t exactly lived up to the hype and moving him could free things up for Kris Dunn. LaVine is solid, but the Timberwolves could also decide to get max value out of him and run a two-point system. Fans will recall LaVine came up in plenty of rumors over the offseason.
Alas, most will decry the Timberwolves getting impatient now. The team has one of the most encouraging bases of any and has stuck to its long-term rebuilding plan thus far. Abandoning it now could create the ultimate “what could have been” moment.
If Thibodeau makes any move at all, controversy will follow.
