It was just announced that Dallas Cowboys #1 receiver has earned himself a shiny new contract. Austin will be expected to continue where he left off as Romo’s #1 target and deep threat option.
From ESPN:
The Dallas Cowboys apparently didn’t need to see anything else from Pro Bowl wide receiver Miles Austin before signing him to a lucrative contract extension Thursday. Austin signed a six-year extension worth $57 million, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
We’ll try to track down the all-important guaranteed portion of the contract, but it’s obvious the Cowboys have made a long-term commitment to the former rookie free agent out of tiny Monmouth University. Austin left a receivers meeting Thursday afternoon to briefly meet with the media.
“It’s great to be wanted by this team, because I wanted to be here,” said Austin. “But the main goal is to win as many games as possible.”
Austin thanked Jerry Jones and the owner’s son, Stephen, for giving him a shot in the league. We’ll have more in a moment.
