When I first read and later heard the comments Martellus Bennett said about Romo needing to compete for his position against Kitna, I literally laughed out loud. Romo is the starting quarterback and will be the starting QB for awhile. In case you missed what was said, here’s the 2nd round bust on Romo:
“I loved playing with Kitna,” tight end Martellus Bennett said during a Tuesday appearance on ESPN 103.3’s Ben & Skin Show. “Kitna is one of my favorite people to play with. Just being out there on the field with that guy just makes you play even harder. He made some things happen in limited time, so I think if he got a longer chance, he’d be able to do more.
“I hope there’s a chance for a quarterback competition this year. Every position, I think we need to put more competition into it.” (DallasESPN)
Bennett is somewhat right in saying competition for every position is needed, but there won’t be any for Romo, Witten, or Ware. Period. Bennett on the other hand will be lucky to make the team this year. Bennett has been a bust, anyone saying he’s not is high on their own supply. We ALL know John Phillips was on his way to take the #2 TE spot from Bennett last year, but injury delayed the inevitable. I doubt Bennett catches any passes from Romo or even Kitna in 2011.
