The Cowboys are enjoying their bye week just a little bit more because the Eagles and Giants both suffered losses today. The Eagles probably wish they could restart their season, they are now a dreadful 1-4, and reeling on both sides of the ball. I’ve been checking around Eagles sites and one goes on to say the Eagles now have a 2% shot of making the playoffs, the feeling is familiar and very forgettable.
The Giants loss also puts them back under .500 at 2-3 after a sloppy loss to the horrid Seahawks. The Giants season to this point resembles the Cowboys the closest with their up and down season. Let’s just hope the Cowboys can go on a roll and make a run at the NFC East. The Redskins seem to be playing the most sound ball to this point of the season, and you just get the feeling they will be there at the end of the season when all the cards are on the table.
Let’s look at the immediate schedules of the NFC East:
Cowboys: @Patriots, Rams, @Eagles, Seahawks
Redskins: Eagles, @Panthers, @Bills, 49ers
Giants: Bills, Bye, Dolphins, @Patriots
Eagles: @Redskins, Bye, Cowboys, Bears
Wow, that’s going to make for an interesting 4 weeks for the whole division.
The Cowboys are coming out of the bye at perhaps the right part of the season. The Cowboys will be getting back alot of much needed help on offense and defense, and they will need it. The Patriots are beginning to surge, and they are going to be a handful to say the least. I have full confidence that Garrett will have this team more prepared than ever. Two weeks to prepare for the Patriots will be the easy part, the hard part will be executing and not turning over the ball.
We all know Belechick is the best at taking out opposing teams’ best players, and making them beat you with other players. So, fully expect the Patriots to take away Witten out of the gameplan, and Austin or Bryant. The weakest part of the Cowboys on offense right now is what? The running game, and that’s what the Patriots will attempt to force us to beat them with. Which may not be a bad thing, the Patriots run defense isn’t what it use to be, and the Jets just took them for some yards by shoving Greene down their throats.
However, the Patriots did give up some yards in the running game, but they were able to give that up vs the big plays in the passing game. The Jets weren’t able to muster enough in the passing game to go toe-to-toe with the explosive Patriots offense. Patriots win, gameover. The gameplan from the Patriots point-of-view may be a carbon copy vs the Cowboys. It will be Garrett’s mission to figure out backup scenarios to keep the offense going. Our running game stinks, so this may be the week where we call up some other guys ala Murray and Tanner for some spark.
