Can Austin be relied upon for the 2012 season?

With about a week’s worth of camp in the books we’re now dealing with another Miles Austin hamstring issue. He tweaked it, and is being held out as a precaution. If this doesn’t concern you, then somethings wrong with you. Here’s a player who to me, is injury prone. After the draft I wrote a piece saying that the Cowboys not only needed a #3 WR, but just as important, a #4 WR. Why? Miles Austin. He hasn’t even played a preseason game and here we go again. Every training camp he pulls the hamstring and it lingers the WHOLE season, literally.

You want to know why the Cowboys pushed so hard to get Beasley back into camp? Its the depth. Beasley has been the standout thus far, and Radway is right there in the mix again, as is Ogletree. Outside of these three receivers, we are thin, and if Austin’s issue drags through we may have to pick up a veteran guy somewhere down the line.

I said this before and I’ll say it again, if Austin can’t be improved physically under Coach Woicik, then no one is going to get his body in a consistent playing shape. We’ll need to move on in 2013. Yes, its early, but you can’t help to wonder about Austin. You have to be reliable, and Austin is not.
