Today is the Senior Bowl, and the Cowboys will have plenty of talent to look at, one last time in action before the NFL Combine. The Cowboys have had some luck drafting players they scouted at the Senior Bowl. In 2011, DeMarco Murray and Dwayne Harris were players we plucked from that year. And perhaps the best Senior Bowl Alumnist is DeMarcus Ware.
Can the Cowboys pluck out another productive player from the 2013 Senior Bowl roster? Time will tell, but there are a few players that should be impact players and some that could come in and fill some holes the Cowboys have right now. These are are few players I liked during the week, let’s see how they look in the game.
- DE Datone Jones – UCLA
- DE Alex Okafer – Texas
- DE Margus Hunt – SMU
- CB Desmond Trufant – Washington
- CB/S TJ McDonald
- CB Jonathan Cyprien – FIU
- RB Stefan Taylor – Stanford
- WR Quiton Patton – Louisiana Tech
- C Brian Schwenke – California
- LB Chase Thomas – Stanford
I still think the Cowboys cannot go into 2013 with the same offensive lineup, it was garbage and outside of a sometimes good Tyron Smith, everyone else is very upgradeable.
Center should be looked at and Brian Schwenke plays in the zone blocking scheme, the same Callahan runs in Dallas, so keep an eye on him today. There are a few OT in the game, but probably out of our reach at 18. I’m not sure we can go another season with Free at RT, this could be addressed with an underclassmen if the Cowboys draft OT early.
RB Stefan Taylor is a solid back from Stanford who is the complete back, and he can pass block. We could use another back to rotate with Murray and supply us with an insurance policy. As it stands now, if Murray was out in 2013, we’d be left with very average guys.
