The pressure is on and Morris Claiborne folded like a cheap suit and chose to walk out on the team after being informed of his demotion. Reports indicate that Claiborne found out Orlando Scandrick would replace him and he walked out of the facility in a childish tirade.
For most fans, it’s almost like Christmas on the first day of fall! Claiborne supporters at this point are unicorns at this point, the player just keeps proving he is a certified bust – he can’t hang.
Jason Garrett preaches having the “right kind of guys” on the roster and Claiborne is absolutely the antithesis of that.
So what’s next for the Cowboys, what happens to Claiborne?
If I’m the Cowboys, everything is on the table: Deactivation; Suspension; Release; or Trade
Claiborne’s agent Bus Cook will talk with his client and see what he wants to do and what the Cowboys want to do. The trade deadline is October 28th, 2014, so that is on the horizon.
There are a few cornerback needy teams out there right now, so the phone has probably already begun ringing and if I’m the Cowboys I deactivate Claiborne this week and begin working on a trade. The only issue may be Claiborne’s contract, the cap implications may stifle a trade, but nothing is impossible.
The Cowboys will likely start Carr, Scandrick, Moore and Patmon against the Saints. I feel really good about that lineup; infact, I’m relieved that Claiborne has been demoted. If the Rams 4th stringer could burn Mo, then Brees would torch the hell out of him, ten fold.
Claiborne miss is just another reason Will McClay is in charge?
Early in the offseason Will McClay was promoted as the Draft Czar, which ultimately meant that Tom Ciskowski was demoted to a degree, and the Claiborne pick was under Ciskowski’s watch. The 2012 class as a whole is beat, it’s looking more and more like 2009 all over again.
I wonder how much of the recent misses in the draft lead to McClay’s promotion?
How much of the Wonderlic score should have impacted Claiborne’s draft stock? We know Mo scored a 4 on his test and it is one of the lowest in recent years in wonderlic history. This should have been a red flag. Mo even admitted to blowing off the test and not taking it serious – red flag city.
“I mean, I looked on the test and wasn’t nothing on the test that came with football, so I pretty much blew the test off,” Claiborne said.
I’m not sold on Claiborne taking the NFL serious, and his antics today just confirm what we all know, let’s just hope Garrett and Jones make the correct collaborative decision and bench him or dump the player. As an owner or head coach, there must be some accountability or other’s will follow and doubt the leadership.
