The Cowboys are busy visiting with their allotted 30 pre-draft visits and we’ve already seen a who’s who of some the nations elite players at Valley Ranch.
Among some of the visits have been:
- DE Joey Bosa, Ohio State
- RB Zeke Elliot, Ohio State
- DE Shaq Lawson, Clemson
- DE DeForest Buckner, Oregon
- QB Jared Goff, California
- QB Paxton Lynch, Memphis
- QB Connor Cook, Michigan State
- RB Derrick Henry, Alabama
- WR Will Fuller, Notre Dame
- QB Carson Wentz, North Dakota State
- WR Laquon Treadwell, Mississippi State
- CB Vernon Hargreaves, Florida
- DT Sheldon Rankins, Louisville
- CB Jalen Ramsey, Florida State
- QB Christian Hackenberg, Penn State
With the #4 overall pick, the Cowboys will have all sorts of options at their disposal. So let’s go over some possible scenarios.
Scenario 1:
The Cowboys stay put and make a selection; however, I believe the Cowboys would only pull the trigger at #4 with one player, and that is CB Jalen Ramsey. I’m not sold on DE Joey Bosa as seen in so many mock drafts. If the Cowboys really do like Carson Wentz or Jared Goff, perhaps they just make the pick. Adding Ramsey would bolster the secondary significantly. Can you imagine Scandrick, Jones, and Ramsey on the field together?
Scenario 2:
The Cowboys trade out of the pick. I have a strong feeling this is what the Cowboys are hoping happens. There will be some nice prospects falling to the Cowboys #4 pick and you can bet the phone will be ringing in Dallas. Question is how far will the Cowboys be looking to trade down to. If the Cowboys trade down I think the target then becomes players like RB Zeke Elliot( if not too far down), DE Shaq Lawson, QB Paxton Lynch, or DE Noah Spence.
Scenario 3:
The Cowboys trade out of their pick multiple times to the bottom of the 1st round and accumulate picks in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th rounds. I don’t think this would be the likeliest scenario by any means, but it could be one that they feel they need in order to supplement a quiet free agency. We need better depth across the board, because looking back at last season, the lack of quality depth further exacerbated a terrible season. The Cowboys future #2 WR could probably be had in this draft. We probably need another body on the offensive line. Double-dipping at DE could be advantageous as well since we can’t count on Gregory. Running back will be addressed in later rounds and CJ Prosise would be my pick.
Scenario 4:
The Cowboys stay put with the #4 pick and #34, which hopefully addresses the pass rush and another player that will help this team now and in the future. While this may be the most boring scenario, it could be just fine with me if we get impact players. Just give me impact players. I really don’t care where they get drafted, just produce.
What scenario do you think the Cowboys are more likely to do? What should the Cowboys do? or what would you do if you were the GM? Let’s hear it!
