Last week we got together with Bleed Big Blue for their perspective on the game. This week we’re getting together with our friends over at Redskins Hog Heaven.
I went over what the Cowboys will need to do to win the game, and here are three reasons the Redskins will win the game according to Redskins Hog Heaven:
No. 1 — Tony Romo is out.
Don’t count Hog Heaven among those who malign Romo. He is a premier QB and the sole reason the Cowboys can even sniff a playoff spot. Jerry Jones built this offense around Romo. Now Romo is gone.
No. 1a – Asking too much of Dak Prescott.
You asked your rookie quarterback to throw 45 times in his first pro game? Really, Jerry? That put too much on the young man’s shoulders, although his receivers let him down in the loss to the Giants. Forty-five pass attempts gave the Redskins a lot of video on Prescott to prep for the game. It’s true the Redskins have not done well against mobile quarterbacks, but who knows more about defensing dual threats than the Redskins.
No. 2 – The Redskins will make better use of CB Josh Norman.
Norman performed well the one or two times he lined up against Antonio Brown. The Steelers moved Brown around the scrimmage line. He is one of the very few receivers that can run all the routs from every receiver position. I don’t think Dez Bryant can do as well. Defensing him with Josh Norman may be down to DC Joe Barry’s level of competence. Did I mention that Barry is the least popular man in Washington this week?
I am more worried about the interior of Washington’s offensive and defensive lines than I am by the receiver covered by Norman.
No. 3 – Rookies Rookies everywhere!
Smart NFL people believe players, especially QBs, need experience of 36 games before they’ve seen everything in the NFL. Prescott and Zeke Elliott are getting a look at their second game. Melvin Gordon may have been a better Big Ten running back than Elliott, but he struggled in his rookie year with the Chargers. Elliott’s experience may be different, but early success is not a given. He should be a tougher problem when these teams meet later in the season.
The sports books give the Redskins 3-point home field advantage. The Redskins should win by 4.
