Should Mo Claiborne Get an Extension?

Don’t look now, but there is a corner back who seems to come back from the dead — Morris Claiborne. For his part, Claiborne seems to be on a bit of a renaissance this year.

Question is: Is his improved play due to being a contract year or because of his new cornerbacks coach, Joe Baker.

Baker replaced Jerome Henderson who moved on from the Cowboys this past offseason, and Claiborne has looked as good as he ever has. The last time Claiborne looked this good was perhaps his rookie season, but everything after that has been a disaster.

Claiborne has had countless injuries, missed most of his preseason games, and several regular season games, but this year he looks to be on a mission to prove his doubters wrong, including myself.

There were signs the Cowboys were ready to move on from Claiborne when the opted not to exercise his 5-yr option. Claiborne played through last season knowing he may hit free agency and he did, but he decided to sign a 1-yr deal with the Cowboys for $3 plus incentives.

The Cowboys will have some decisions to make with their corners. Brandon Carr is signed through the 2017 season with a bloated price tag of $10 million, and Claiborne may hit free agency.

At 26 years old Claiborne still has value if he can keep playing the way he has this year. Either way the Cowboys may need to decide if they want to keep Claiborne over Carr, or will they let both go? Carr definitely has not lived up to his contract and I cannot see where the Cowboys pay him $10 million, and with Claiborne you have to hope he can stay healthy.

Should the Cowboys extend Claiborne now, or should they wait until later, or should we stay away from another contract with Claiborne? Take the Poll below:
